Garvey-inspired new artiste on the rise – Creus Richardson

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT is often said that our strongest resource is our people and in St. Kitts our people are full of talent and eager to display it to the world. New artistes are born everyday inspired to sing songs that share their experiences in life and love – songs that help to motivate us as well

Introducing Creus Re’necio Richardson a 25-year-old from The Alley, Sandy Point who has decided for the first time to record and produce music.

He is a part of a group called ‘Lyrical Insane Records’ (LIR) and for 2012 he said his group will be producing more music.

In an interview with SKNVibes, Richardson said that he decided to get into singing songs and letting the world hear his music because of the suffering and hurt he saw people go through.

He is hoping his music will help heal and inspire those that listen, while bringing comfort to them and the knowledge that they are not alone in the struggles they experience.

“Everyone loves music; music is life. And when you look around you see everybody hurting, and if there’s a way for me to give input and help, why not?

“If I can help and guide people, for a better levity then that’s what I want my music to do; to help us learn to appreciate others more, not just for wealth or earnings, but take it deeper and respect people for who they are,” he said.

As Richardson spoke about persons having a positive mentality and outlook on life one could see that the type or style of music he wanted to bring was going to be more about reality and less about fantasy.

Persons would not be hearing him sing about the ‘bling-bling’ or ‘hot ride’ he has, but more of what is ‘experience’ in day to day life situations.

“I have various styles; my songs are more about reality. The solution to our problem could never be found in negativity and that’s what I bring; I never try to promote negativity, but life is about survival, so in defending yourself it could come about negative but in order for the good to come bad might happen,” he said.

“There are some people that would try to oppress you, people judge you for no reason, but I’ve been through things. I see myself as a loving man, my friends tell me all the time that I’m an intelligent man and I should use my knowledge to help and uplift, so that’s what I’m trying to do.”

One thing he would definitely sing about is love and in his song “One in a Million” which features fellow LIR member Bentley, it captures memories about that one ‘good’ that was truly special in his life.

And although he does not go into much detail about the inspiration behind the song which has a feel good beat produced by Antoine ‘Zagadon’ Adams of Zagadon Productions, he is singing from the heart.

“…To my life you know you bring that golden spark, me wan’ fi hold you in my arms not just my thoughts…” a line in the song says.

His number one musical inspiration is none other than the late Marcus Garvey whom he regards as a musician.

“To be honest, speech is like music and Marcus Garvey can be regarded as a musician because of the way he puts across himself to people. His words in terms of life and ‘liverty’ are like music to the soul, without a beat, what makes him so touching is that it’s just a voice he uses,” he said.

He also enjoys the music of Bob Marley, Sizzla, Buju Banton, also Movado and Vybz Kartel where he said that although Kartel is raw in certain lyrics his positive songs are really deep and encouraging.

As they continue to produce, hoping to release more throughout the year, Richardson said that they will be as true as possible with their music.

‘Letting others know they’re not the only ones going through struggles and trying to uplift them and  motivate them, showing them there is more to life than vanity’  – this is the theme and driving force behind their songs.

In terms of how far they want to reach, Richardson said they will take their time.

“I try to show my companions we can’t dwell on getting famous. God told us about patience and we just trying to uplift St. Kitts on a whole and also the world,” he said.
