‘Suck pon dat’ says DJ Rinch

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ALTHOUGH the year is still what many people consider as ‘fresh’, local artiste DJ Rinch, born Rajiv Hamilton, might have already found himself with the biggest hit for 2012 titled ‘Give Them A Sweetie’.

In the track, the Cayon resident and proprietor of Yard Tune Productions (YTP), lashes out at his haters with some hard hitting unapologetic lyrics.

In the introductory aspect of the song, the singer states that “everything me do them a suck pon it”, while the chorus says, “Give them a sweetie, mek them suck pon dat, cause them a chat behind my back …damn idiot.”

Speaking with SKNVIbes, DJ Rinch said the song is one that everyone could relate to in terms of people constantly talking about them.

He said the idea basically came to him after thinking about some of his life experiences and the things he been through.

“The message I want to send is to let some people know that they need to cool off of negativity and stop trying to bring down other people. I been doing music for a long time and people still trying to fight me down. So, for the people who talking, I just say ‘Here! Hold dat’ and give them a sweetie let them suck on that since they like to chat.’”

DJ Rinch, a.k.a. NU, his new moniker for the New Year, also stated that he is trying to explore a different side in his music career.

He said that instead of pelting out ‘bad man lyrics’ to his haters he simply put it in a different form to display his versatility.

At the ‘outro’ of the song he sings, “Thank you haters, thank you who rate us.”

The self-penned song has not yet been performed but was released last week with radio personality Sweet Sister Sensia.

The beat, ‘Settle Gal’, was produced by the talented Magician also of Cayon who is known for producing many of the local riddims that carry some of the local hits.

DJ Rinch, who has been in the entertainment business for several years as a producer, DJ and artiste, said for 2012 his focus is on him, so that he could improve his vocals and show people his creativity.

He further added that his aim is to also ‘buss’ himself like every other artiste and show St. Kitts that he is ready.
