Junior Achievement kicks off Entrepreneurial Training Programme 2012

    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, February 2nd, 2012  --  Seventy students and their teachers from seven secondary schools in the Federation participated in the first training seminar for this year’s Junior Achievement Company Program. The seminar was held at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Auditorium on Saturday January 28, 2012.

     

    The training session introduced the students to the various components of the Project, and in particular, the creation of business plans.  The sessions were facilitated by Ms Youlouca Armony-Browne of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and Mr Philip Browne of the National Entrepreneur Development Division (NEDD).  The students were encouraged to take full advantage of the Program as this is the era of entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity.

     

    Mr Calvin Cable, Executive Director of the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, reminded attendees of the impact that the global economic crisis has had on the local and  regional business marketplace, which has resulted in major difficulties in gaining employment in the traditional areas.

    One solution to this, he explained, can be realised through Entrepreneurship, small business development and self-employment.
                          
    The Junior Achievement Company Program is an annual Project which is managed by the Chamber, and supported by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and many business houses in St Kitts and Nevis.

    Sponsors for the Programme are the St Kitts Nevis  and Anguilla Nevis National Bank Ltd and CIBC First Caribbean International Bank.

     

    The objective of the Program is to empower youth in the areas of entrepreneurship, partnerships & collaboration, savings, investing & wealth creation, ethical behaviour in the workplace and the environmental and social responsibilities of business enterprises.
