BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, February 2nd, 2012 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Tuesday that the presence of the Ministers with responsibility for Agriculture, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris; Minister of Energy, the Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin; Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Ricky Skerritt; and His Excellency Ambassador Miguel Tsao of the Republic of China (Taiwan) ensures a simultaneous, interwoven flowering of all of these priorities - agriculture, green energy, tourism, and bilateral cooperation – in the construction of the Agro-Tourism Demonstration Farm.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony for what is to become a well-sought after tourism attraction, Prime Minister Douglas the vision is a “well thought-out, and innovative project - for the benefit of Kittitians and Nevisians, for decades to come.”
Dr. Douglas said the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government decided long ago that it would be in no way deterred by the lack of natural resources in the traditional sense of the word: no natural gas, no copper mines and no endless sea of timber.
“And the reason we’ve not been deterred is that we have also long understood, and been grateful for the fact, that we have indeed been blessed with the most important “natural resource” of all – an imaginative, determined, and enterprising populace. And we in the Government know, and understand, that that is what is key to all human advancement – anywhere,” said Dr. Douglas.
He .said that in addition to the human gifts St. Kitts and Nevis, the twin-island federation is also “breathtakingly beautiful, and a land where fertile soil abounds.”
“What better way to marry the botanic, touristic, green energy, and bilateral potential, then, than in a project such as the one we are here to move forward today – this unique and multifaceted Agro-Tourism Demonstration Farm Project?,” asked Prime Minister Douglas, who noted that the Minister of Agriculture is forever exploring expanded opportunities to marry the fertility of soil with the imagination of the people.
“Our Minister of Energy is doing all in his power to move the Federation away from its traditional fossil fuel dependence, and in the direction of green energy. Our Minister of Tourism is constantly seeking innovative ways to make the Federation’s tourism project more intriguing – and more competitive,” pointing out further that St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China on Taiwan “are forever seeking new opportunities via which, together, we can advance the interests of our respective countries and peoples.”
Prime Minister Douglas, the Parliamentary Representative and architect of the vision told scores of invited guests that the project is an intriguing culmination of all their efforts and all their objectives.
