Marriott’s Spirit to Serve touches Beach Allen Primary School

    By Joyette Mills-Ward

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- EMPLOYEES of the St Kitts Marriott Resort demonstrated their ‘Spirit to Serve’ their community today at the Beach Allen Primary School when along with teachers and sixth grade students of the school they began renovation efforts to the structure.

SKNVibes.com spoke with Lisa Parker of the Marriott’s Human Resources Department who indicated that during this same week each year, every Marriott hotel around the world celebrates Associate Appreciation week. Parker explained that under ‘Spirit to Serve Our Community’ Marriott workers chose a community to lend assistance to.

While on site at Beach Allen, Parker went into detail about the different sub-projects they were hoping to complete by day’s end.

“We’ll have 50 to 60 people from the Marriott back and forth throughout the day who will be carrying out different projects including sanitizing restrooms, fixing some of the plumbing and making other aesthetic repairs. We’re also hoping to paint the entire exterior of the school,” she said.

Parker noted that the T-shirts worn by the Associates emblazoned with the words “Spirit to Serve Our Community,” spoke to a very important part of the core culture and business philosophy of Marriott chain founded by JW Marriott some 81 years ago.

It was later revealed that Keeden Isaac, an Engineering Supervisor at the Marriott was the person who identified the Beach Allen as a possible community project to benefit through this year’s program.

He noted that several other schools had been considered and were visited but none were found to be in as much need as the Beach Allen Primary School.

“We found that there were a lot little things we could do to make the school safer. We may even take it a bit further and erect a swing set for the kids to enjoy,” Isaac said.
