BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MORE and more each day it is being realised that women can perform as good or even better than men in what were in the distant past perceived as male-dominated professions.

Evidence of this reality lies in the field of medicine, engineering, aeronautics and security, among others.

From this backdrop, management of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) demonstrated its commitment to its efficient, conscientious and dedicated employees on Friday (Feb. 3) when a female topped the Promotion List of that organisation’s Port Constables.

Topping the list is Jacqueline Belle who was promoted to the rank of Sergeant from a field of 22 that comprised 16 females and six males.

Those promoted to Corporals are Panthea Woodley, Dawnette Pennyfeather, Dario Isaac, Steve Wilkin and Stivor Dorset, while Patricia Thomas, Lynette Prentice, Annette Dasent, Llewellyn Williams, Carol Blackman, Icilma Bassue, Donna Clarke, Marilyn Cotton, Arthnel Jordon, Petula Huggins, Kandi Romney, Wilma Francis, Cauline Leader, Morlene Ward, Letitia Collins and craig Richards were promoted to Lance Corporals.

The event took place at the Police Training Complex in Basseterre during the closing ceremony of a three-week Port Constable Training Course conducted by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

On that course, Constable McKuen Isaac was adjudged the Best Graduating Student and Constable Dwight Rawlins Best Presentation.

In his brief address, SCASPA’s Chief Executive Officer Terrence Crossman congratulated the newly-promoted ranks and stressed the importance of professionalism through education.

“Management believes that to function professionally in the ever-changing security environment, officers must be constantly exposed to relevant current information and be placed in situations to sharpen or develop techniques. Learning therefore is continuous and you must never feel that you have learnt enough…there is always more to learn, and so I implore you to continue to learn.

“However, today, I feel proud of our officers who have demonstrated by their competence, work ethics an attitude that you are worthy of promotion. We will expect that you continue to display these qualities, which have led you to moving forward and that you will inspire others to achieve as you have.”
