Press Release

LITTLE BAY, Montserrat, February 6th, 2012 – A second group of senior civil servants wrapped up the first phase of training in the 360 Leadership Circle Workshop last Friday at the Montserrat Cultural Centre. The programme takes senior civil servants from the directors level and higher through a series of evaluations, personal coaching and group sessions to look at how they can become more effective leaders within the government.

Marjoleine Hulshof of Ad Value Ltd, an Organisational Learning and Development Firm facilitated the workshops which were conducted over a three-week period. Hulshof told the participants at day’s end that this was a “kick off of a journey” that would enable them to transform how Montserrat shows up in the world.

She also reminded them that it only takes four or five people to bring about meaningful change and encouraged the group to use the skills available across the organisation to improve the effectiveness of the government service.

Deputy Governor Sarita Francis told the group that the programme was designed to build a new cadre of leaders for now and the future. She said that there was clearly the “appetite and the determination among the participants to make a difference internally and across the island.”

The final phase of the training will be managed by Jacqui Wilson an Organisational Development Trainer over the coming weeks. Each participant will receive individual coaching and mentoring sessions with Wilson based on the 360 assessment which were done through surveys from colleagues, subordinates and bosses.

A third group of civil servants will begin the 360 Leadership Circle programme later in March. The workshops are being funded through the Human Resources Training & Learning Division of the Government of Montserrat.
