BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE new Employee of the Quarter at Ocean Terrace Inn was announced yesterday (Feb. 8), and taking the accolade is Mauricia Williams of Molineux.

Williams is a Payroll Clerk at the Accounts Department and has been working with the company for almost 14 years.

This is her third win of that nature.

She first won the Employee of the Month in 2003 and again in 2007.

Williams was awarded a certificate for her exemplary performance and her photograph will be on display at the hotel showing that she is Employee of the Quarter from October to December 2011.

“I was very surprised by the win because I have not been nominated since 2007. But I am very happy. This is definitely something to be proud of,” she said.

This is Williams’ first employment and she relayed that she feels very comfortable with the people she works with and the environment.

“I have never worked anywhere else, so I basically grew up here,” said the mother of an 11-year-old son.

Williams declared that while at work she tries to get all she is tasked with completed during working hours.

“At times there’s barely time for lunch, so I don’t ever take my full lunch hour on a regular basis, unless I have to go town to do something…and most times I would send someone and I don’t take breaks and hardly sick where I have to stay away from work,” she said.

Williams would like to encourage employees to stay focused on their job and to do the best they could.

She not only prays to her Creator for her family and friends during her personal time, but also for the prosperity of her place of employ.

“When I pray I always ask God to bring in guests to the hotel and I pray for the directors and managers. I ask Him to keep the doors open which provide jobs for the staff specifically, because of the way the economy is going,” she said.

In a previous interview, Accounts Manager Heidi Slack stated that the Employee Recognition Programme has been in effect for over five years and it was established as a means of acknowledging and rewarding employees who go the extra mile for the company.

“It is all about boosting employees’ morale as well as trying to reward employees for their work. It sets standards for employees to work towards. It also offers the managers an opportunity to personally thank the employees for their ongoing contribution to helping us as a hotel ensure that we exceed customer expectations,” Slack said.

According to a previous article, every department in the hotel has the option of nominating a deserving employee for the award. Every nominee is then judged based on the criteria stipulated and a winner is chosen.

Among the criteria for judging the Employee of the Quarter are punctuality, attendance, performance, and how well the employees work as a team and with management.
