~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER being chastised by the court for his “stupidity”, Livingston Morris of Cayon was ordered to pay $5 000 for unlawfully wounding a man.

Morris was accused of wounding Geron Gumbs with intent to cause grievous harm and also unlawful wounding; offences which are believed to have taken place on April 22, 2007.

According to evidence in the case, Morris stabbed Gumbs in the chest after an altercation ensued between himself and Gumbs’ cousin.

Morris pleaded guilty to the latter offence and, before sentencing was passed, presiding judge, Justice Francis Belle told him that his first error was giving chase after Gumbs’ cousin when he called him a “punk”.

Justice Belle told Morris that his actions were “stupid” and explained to him that if the case had gone to trial he would have been sent to jail.

“You have to pay for your stupidity,” Justice Belle told Morris just before ordering him to pay $5 000 within the next six months or serve 18 months at Her Majesty’s Prison.
