PM Douglas welcomes new Catholic Bishop of St. John’s-Basseterre

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, February 15th, 2012 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has congratulated the new Bishop of St. John’s-Basseterre, the Most Rev. Kenneth Richards.
     
    “Your distinguished years of service in the clergy, your contribution to the spiritual development of the members of the Catholic Community and your own commitment to the goodwill of humanity, no doubt, have informed the decision for the recognition and honour bestowed on you at this time,” said Prime Minister Douglas in a letter he personally delivered to Bishop Richards at the end of the Mass of Thanksgiving and Welcome at the Immaculate Conception Co-Cathedral on East Independence Square  on February 9th.
     
    Prime Minister Douglas in his letter congratulating Bishop Richards on behalf of the Government and People of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis said: “As a son of the region you can stand proudly among those of the Episcopal lineage who have made their mark in the Diocese of St. John’s Basseterre. We are honoured to welcome you and wish you much success in your stewardship in this jurisdiction.”
     
    Other top government and other officials attending the Service were Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian; Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Sam Condor and Mrs. Condor; Minister with responsibility for Ecclesiastical Affairs, the Hon. Marcella Liburd; His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas; Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, Sir K. Dwight Venner; Ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps and the Clergy.
