New Resort begins construction in Frigate Bay next week

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS-AFTER two years of planning, the eco-friendly Silver Reef Resort is set to begin construction sometime during the week of May 26th, offering a commercial development and estimated to bring several high-income investors into St. Kitts.

Lying Southwest of the third roundabout in Frigate Bay, the resort will contain fifty-four apartments, eight duplex villas and a three building commercial complex.

“We’ve spoken to several locals and residents of Frigate Bay and we think they will benefit from the commercial hub,” Sebastian Mottram, Chairman of Silver Reef told SKNVibes.com.

“Residents don’t like having to drive all the way into Basseterre every time they need to do their banking or get groceries. Once it is completed there will be a variety of shops downstairs and office space upstairs.”

Mottram went on to say that the resort was largely developed with the aid of local architects and is designed to mostly attract high-income investors from European markets.

“Our target market is the financial guys in London. We are marketing Silver Reef as an investment opportunity for those who are attracted to St. Kitts because of the various tax exemptions that are available,” said Mottram, adding that investment in Silver Reef starts at US $300,000 for a 1,000 sq. ft. 1-bedroom apartment. ~~Adz:Right~~

The Chairman stated that locals would be employed at all levels, including top management positions within the development.

“Tracy Thompson, a Kittitian who has over ten years experience in the hotel business, has been chosen to run the resort. There will also be several local job opportunities created by the day-to-day operations of resort and commercial facilities.”

In speaking about the apartments and villas, Mottram explained in detail the amount of work that went into making the resort “eco-sensitive.”

“We took a lot of time to engineer the apartments to reduce cooling costs. We did a study and found that by adding simple design features that affect how air flow and light work in the apartments we can reduce cooling costs by up to 30 %,” he said.

He also added that features such as solar water heating, recycling water for irrigation and using local materials to reduce shipping costs are to be implemented in the development to reduce its carbon footprint.

“I think this will provide a focal point of interest and be of service to residents of Silver Reef and Frigate Bay alike,” Mottram stated in formal press release.
