Press Release

BASSETERRE St.Kitts, February 16th, 2012  -- Over two hundred and fifty families of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in St. Kitts gathered for an island-wide Family Life Celebration Weekend, held February 9-13, at the Seventh-day Adventist School grounds and the Basseterre Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The focus of the weekend was restoring the family. The weekend’s worship and workshops explored multiple topics in marriage, singleness, and parenting leaving all present socially and spiritually enriched. Family Life Leaders, Elders, Pastors, Church members and visitors alike received life-changing principles to strengthen their individual families.

The first time Family Celebration weekend featured representatives from the South Leeward Mission of Seventh-day Adventist and the Caribbean Union of Seventh-day Adventists. South Leeward Mission Family Life Director, Pastor Charles Heskey, Caribbean Union Family Life Director, Pastor Andrew Farrell, and South Leeward Mission Children’s Ministries Director, Dr. Eulalie Semper were the facilitators for the weekend.

The weekend began Thursday evening with a session for elders. The Family Life leaders of the different Seventh-day Adventist Church congregations on the island met on Friday night with the Family Life Directors and local pastors; the leaders were challenged to create a community of supporters and core groups to assist with the execution and planning of family life activities for the church.

The leaders were also admonished to develop an effective Family Life Ministry though personal preparation, the development of a mission and vision statement and goals, and through the creation of a resource bank of professionals and paraprofessionals.

The Sabbath service offered more opportunities for families to gain valuable insight into family life as topics centering on marriage and singleness were explored. Married couple gathered on Sunday night and the weekend’s celebration culminated on Monday night as parents were offered practical tips and bible admonitions on how to effectively parent children in today’s technological society through a question and answer forum.

“The family is the most important unit in society and every family deserves to make it into the Kingdom of God,” said District One Pastor, Pastor Sherwin White. Pastor White also indicated that it is both his and Pastor of District Two, Pastor Kay White’s intention to work around the island to restore holistic families for God because  “no family is so badly broken that God cannot fix it.”
