Who will be SCASPA’s interim CEO?

Marcellus Phillip (L) and Cedric Liburd

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AS the date of the departure of the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the St. Christopher and Nevis Ports Authority (SCAPSA) inches closer, questions are being raised as to who would fill that position until an official CEO is appointed.

Weeks ago, it was confirmed that SCASPA’s CEO Terrance Crossman had tendered his resignation from that position at that entity to take effect the ending of March, 2012.

And as of April 1, another individual would possibly be stationed at the helm while the processes of advertising, interviewing, discussing and selection relating to the position of CEO are being carried out.

In some quarters, it is believed that former Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Housing, Cedric R. Liburd, who is the present advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Transportation, the Honourable Richard Skerritt, is being considered as the interim CEO.

It is also suggested that the current Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Marcellus Phillip, is being considered as the provisional CEO.

Recently-appointed Chairman of the SCASPA Board Carol Evelyn was contacted concerning these rumours and asked if either or both of these men are being considered to hold the fort while a CEO is being sought and selected.

He neither confirmed nor denied the rumours and noted that “I am not in any position at the moment to indicate whether or not these men are being considered or whether or others are being considered”.

Crossman took up the mantle as CEO of SCASPA on April 12, 2010 and it was under his watch that the organisation was able to generate a profit (in 2011); the first for the past 14 years.

It is said that he is leaving SCASPA to fully manage – as Chairperson - the Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation (SIDF).
