Basseterre; St. Kitts - The Rotary Clubs of Liamuiga, St. Kitts and Nevis successfully hosted a team from the Rotary 2008 Group Study Exchange (GSE). Five (5) young professionals from Georgia (District 6910) visited the Federation were engaged in activities that showcased the food, culture and hospitality of our people. Activities included visits to the National Museum, Brimstone Hill, the birthplace of Sir Alexander Hamilton and the Bath Springs in Nevis.

Additionally, team members were engaged in visits to various institutions that gave them different insights into how their vocation or profession is practiced at several business houses across the islands. This was an integral part of their visit as the purpose of the exchange is to provide both cultural, as well as, vocational experiences.

All members of the Group expressed their pleasure at being in the Federation and praised the hospitality and friendliness of the people while here.  For some, it was their first visit to the Caribbean and one that will be followed by many more.

Also, returning from a similar visit to West Virginia was the Federation’s representative in the District 7030 GSE, Mr. Francil Morris.  He spent four (4) weeks traveling mainly through West Virginia and some neighbouring states engaging in similar activities as the team that was here.  He was among other team members from St. Lucia, Guadeloupe, Barbados, and Trinidad.

Morris stated that aside from having the opportunity to experience the culture of the area, he gained a wealth of knowledge in his profession, which is Education.  He stated, “The most important aspect of my exchange was my vocational visits. The educational institutions I visited were extremely welcoming and I was given the opportunity to interact with Education Administrators, Teachers, as well as,  Students who realized that my country and the Caribbean on a whole is more than just sea, sun, and sand. I took every opportunity to promote the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis on all of my visits.”

Morris also encourages any young person to make use of any such opportunities that may be afforded them, as it provides occasions to enhance one’s personal and professional learning experience.
