BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Traffic Department has preferred a charge against Kimo Liburd following the results of an autopsy performed on the remains of accident victim Janiah Johnson.

The autopsy, according to a Traffic Department press release, was performed today (Feb. 21) by resident pathologist Dr. Dora Magdariaga.

And according to her conclusion, death was as a result of “head trauma as a consequence of a motor vehicle accident”.

Little Janiah is the first road fatality for 2012, having been involved in a February 19 traffic accident along the Kim Collins Highway.

The authorities indicate that the incident occurred at approximately 7:10 p.m.

The two-year-old’s father, Boris Johnson of Parray’s Village, was driving motorcar P1714 which was travelling in the direction of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) when it collided with motorcar P1436 which was operated by Kimo Liburd of Lodge Project.

Janiah’s mother, Alexia Johnson, was also a passenger of P1714 at the time of the collision.

All were reportedly transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital and while the adults suffered cuts and bruises, little Janiah fought for her life for hours before succumbing to her injuries.

The Traffic Department has indicated that Liburd was officially charged with “causing death by dangerous driving” and is scheduled to make an appearance before the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court shortly “where he is expected to be granted bail”.

Causing death by dangerous driving is an indictable offence, the maximum penalty for which is five years imprisonment.
