Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 04, 2005): Members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) will join youths in celebrating Youth Month with an island-wide bike ride on Sunday, February 6.
Warrant Officer Class One Derrick Fyfield told SKNIS that his organization annually holds a fun bike ride the first week in February to boost the morale of soldiers. This year, an effort was made to involve the community particularly young people, to join them in this venture.
We wanted to reach out to the youths to show them that the SKNDF is a family friendly organization, Warrant Officer Fyfield said, adding that the initiative will serve to foster closer relations with young people and help to mould positive minds. We are glad to have them along.
The 4th annual St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force fun bike ride will be held under the theme Cycling with Courage for Morale. Participants will leave the security agencys headquarters at Camp Springfield at 7:30 a.m. They will travel along the island main road via Conaree stopping only at four mandatory pit stops along the route where riders can break and reenergize.
After traversing the island, the cyclers will ride briefly around Basseterre before returning to Camp Springfield. The event traditionally concludes at 12:30 p.m. 48 members of the SKNDF are expected to participate along with a number of civilians.

Director of Youth Geoffrey Hanley noted that this was the first time the fun bike ride is being observed as an activity for Youth Month. He congratulated the SKNDF for its efforts and pledged future collaborations for the event.
