~~Adz:Left~~BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - SOCIAL SUPERVISOR in the Ministry of Social Development, Ann Wigley, is publicly expressing thanks to the Grade Six pupils of the Seventh Day Adventist School [SDAS] for the hours of community service they invested in the elderly members of the community where their school is located.

Since 2003 the Grade Six pupils of the SDAS and other schools would accompany Social Workers on visits to elderly members of the community, whether on their birthdays or other occasions of importance.

Last week was no different when the students and Social Workers visited the homes of Josephine Adams of Nelson Street, Ismay Sweeney of George Street in Newtown and John Vanterpool of Cardin Avenue.

Adams celebrated her birth anniversary on Friday while the other two individuals celebrated theirs on the previous day.

Wigley told SKNVibes that as the children are on their way to another level in their education [high school], she wishes them “all the best” in their future endeavours.

“They go out with me on a regular basis to bring greetings, cheers and so on to the elderly. They go out with me to visit, sing and pray and adopt the grandmothers as their very own. Even though I may not be there, they would go and visit the elderly persons. Now that they are leaving the primary school to go to high school, I want to wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”

Wigley explained that although the students are moving on to bigger and better things, she wishes that they would ever keep the importance of forging and maintaining a bond between the younger and older generations in their hearts and minds.

“I will like to see them continue in what they are doing and encourage them to encourage other children to do what they are doing. At any time they can contact the Social Development Department and we would assist them in going to visit and doing good things for the elderly. It is very important to keep that bond open and I pray that they would carry that love and passion with them as they go into another step in their lives.”

At their graduation ceremony, the Grade Six pupils of the Seventh Day Adventist School will receive certificates of community service, which will be presented by Wigley.
