BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WANTED man Jermaine Browne was last night (Feb. 28) captured by police following a joint operation initiated by a very collaborative effort by law-abiding members of the public.

Speaking with SKNVibes, head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Charles Smithen said, “As a result of a joint operation last evening at 10:45 between members of the CID and Delta Squad, Jermaine Browne, alias Bobo, was taken into custody.

“He was found in a house at Palmetto Point. He did not resist arrest and will be formally charged today.”

Yesterday, police had issued a wanted bulletin for Browne, whom the PRO, Sergeant Stephen Hector, said resides at Mount Idle in Sandy Point.

Hector also informed that a warrant in the first instance was in existence for Browne’s arrest and that “persons who come into contact with the accused are asked contact the nearest police station and not to make personal contact as he is considered armed and dangerous”.

This is not the first time Browne has caught the attention of the law enforcement body.

According to a police press release, on March 26, 2007, he was charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, committed against a male adult in Frigate Bay on March 23, 2007.

After being incarcerated for almost three years, the Sandy Pointer, on May 21, 2011, was acquitted of an armed robbery charge.

It was alleged that he, on June 21, 2008, wearing a mask and armed with a firearm, held up a delivery van of Annie Jones’ Bakery and robbed Justin Joseph and Leon Douglas, employees of the business, of EC$240.

Inspector Smithen, on behalf of the Commissioner and ranks of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, would like to thank those members of the public who had been instrumental in the timely apprehension of the wanted man.
He noted that from all evidence in recent times, the relationship between the public and the police has been strengthened and the Police Force is grateful for the cooperation.

“We are very pleased with the relationship that currently exists between the public and the police, and hope that further growth will materialise as together we fight against crime and take our streets back from the criminals,” Inspector Smithen added.
