BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AN audacious individual, who must have thought he would have reaped success in his midnight attempt at a risky move of robbery, was caught in the act which has earned him the moniker ‘Pocket Bandit’.

Recent talk of cheese and salami bandits and beauty cream bandits has caused many to question just how far some people would go to procure certain items.

And from this backdrop, information reaching this publication suggests that the Pocket Bandit was at work recently in the Basseterre area.

According to head of the Police Force’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Inspector Charles Smithen, an incident occurred at about 12:50 a.m. today (Feb 29) which involved two males, one knife and a pant pocket.

He informed that a Chicken Stone, Gingerland man, whom he identified as Donald Dasent, had missed the ferry which would have taken him from St. Kitts to Nevis, so he made the decision to wait at the Basseterre Ferry Terminal until the departure of the first available vessel.

While there, the Inspector explained, Dasent slipped into slumber and awoke to meet an individual cutting off one of his pants pockets with a knife. And when the individual realised that Dasent had awaken from his catnap, he fled the scene making good his escape.

A report, however, was made to the police to which they responded. Resultantly, Nikoyan Greaux of Malone Avenue, Irishtown was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

The Inspector said he was charged with assault with intent to rob and is scheduled to appear before a court of law shortly.

This is not the first time Greaux has had brushes with the law.

On May 31, 2006, police issued a release which stated that Greaux was charged with being armed with an offensive and disorderly conduct by making noise.

Two years after (June 25, 2008), he was arrested and charged with larceny committed on June 13 of that year. This was followed by another arrest in October 2011.

According to a CUOPM press release, “Commissioner of Police, Mr. C.G Walwyn said police arrested Nikoyan ‘Mowett’ Greaux on suspicion of Larceny at the Basseterre Post Office”.

If further stated, “Greaux, who is also the prime suspect in another on-going investigation, was apprehended without incident by the Special Services Unit (SSU).”
