BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO male residents of St. Paul’s Village were this morning (Feb. 29) formally arrested and charged with the shooting-death of Wingrove Parris.

Charged with murder are Shaheed Williams (28) and 25-year-old Rayjorn Richards.

In a thank you message to members of the public and the local media outlets, Police Press and Public Relations Officer Sergeant Stephen Hector said, “The police wish to express their sincere thanks to the public and the press for their invaluable assistance in solving this crime, and further solicit your cooperation in such endeavours to keep our country free from criminal activity so that residents and visitors alike can feel free to carry on their business and go about their daily lives in peace and tranquility”.

According to reports, Parris was gunned down outside his business place in St. Paul’s Village shortly after closing its doors on the night of Sunday (Feb. 26).

He was shot multiple times and pronounced dead on arrival at the Pogson Hospital in Sandy Point.

Parris was the second businessman to have been killed on St. Kitts while leaving his business place for the night and the fifth murder victim for the year recorded in the annals of the twin-island Federation; four on St. Kitts and one on Nevis.

The first was that of 28-year-old Desroy ‘Piggy’ James of Hermitage Extension, Lower Cayon, who was shot on the night of January 7 while walking with a friend along a track some 30 metres west of his home.

The second was that of 40-year-old Elvin Elvis Stanley of Old Road and proprietor of Elvis Love Shack Bar & Grill at the Frigate Bay Strip, who was shot on the night of January 26 while driving his vehicle along the Anchorage Road on his way home with his children’s mother and their teenage son.

Three men – Shawne Bradshaw of Parson’s Ground, Joseph ‘Galvanise’ Hazel of Bird Rock and Keston Martin of Parson’s ground – have since been charged with Stanley’s murder.

The third was 29-year-old Miguel ‘Bashment’ Robinson of Lime Kiln, who died under a hail of bullets on February 18 at the Four Ways Bar while reportedly there to purchase a bottle of water.

And the fourth murder victim was 22-year-old Leo Herbert, whose body was discovered on Wednesday (Feb. 22) in Bath Village in the vicinity of the historic Fort Charles area with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his head.
