Press Release (BVI)

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI,  March 1st, 2012 – The Sewer 2100 Series Vactor Truck purchased by the Water and Sewerage Department in 2010 is operating efficiently says management and is still in mint condition says manufacturer.

These statements were made during a GIS interview at a refresher training course held in conjunction with Environmental Products of Florida, the authorized dealer and distributor of the truck’s equipment. According to Brian Steinbach, Service Manager with Environmental Products of Florida, he was surprised to see the truck in such good condition given the size of the truck and the size of the island. “The truck is running great with very few issues,” Mr. Steinbach confirmed.

Mr. Bernard Grant, Acting Deputy Director, Water and Sewerage Department attributed the good condition of the truck to the maintenance programme that is strictly adhered to. “There is a maintenance schedule that is strictly adhered to. We check vital signs like fluid and hours of operation on the truck. We also have a log book with detailed recorded information such as usage, hours of operation and area of use,” he said.

According to Mr. Grant the refresher training workshop focused on operations and safety use of the truck. The Vactor Truck is a very sophisticated and important piece of equipment to our operations at the Department, thus the reason for the Mr. Steinbach’s visit. Mr. Grant confirmed that the truck has assisted the department to operate more efficiently.

“We are able to do more preventative maintenance, especially in more problematic areas. In the Road Town area we periodically flush the lines to decrease blockage potential,” Mr. Grant concluded.

The Vactor Truck was commissioned on October 8th 2010 and was priced at approximately $322,600.00.

The Water and Sewerage Department seeks to ensure the provision of a sound sewerage disposal service to all residents of the Virgin Islands efficiently and at affordable rates.
