Participants of the 4th annual St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force Fun Bike Ride
Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 08, 2005):
The energy, determination and intestinal fortitude of young people impressed members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) during an island-wide fun bike ride on Sunday.

The bike ride is held annually by the SKNDF. A release from the security agency explained that the event is organized for recreation, to boost morale amongst soldiers, enhance teamwork and endurance, as well as strengthen the relationship between the Force and the community.

Approximately 50 soldiers and 25 civilians participated. Of the public riders, half were youths. The event was included in the official activities to commemorate February as Youth Month.

Public Relations Officer Lieutenant Kayode Sutton told SKNIS that the young participants were highly motivated and held their own on the island-wide course. The riders traveled along the island main road via Conaree. Mandatory pit stops were set up at Mansions, St. Paul's, Sandy Point and Old Road. Participants were served light refreshments to replenish their energy level.

The event was very successful, Sutton added. The public relations officer thanked the civilian participants and the businesses and individuals who sponsored the event.

Appreciation was also expressed to the members of the general public who lined the route to support the riders.
