    Participants at the workshop
    Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 08, 2005):
    A Commonwealth workshop on building capacity of member states in combating terrorism, began in St. Kitts on Monday.
     
    Head of the Criminal Law Section of the Commonwealth Secretariat and course facilitator, Kimberly Prost told SKNIS that the workshop is geared towards preparing policemen and prosecutors to be better able to combat terrorism and terrorist financing.
     
    The Commonwealth Criminal Law Division Head noted that the workshop focusses on the implementation of regulations, giving specific directions to investigators and prosecutors in international legislation and how to use it.
     
    The workshop deals specifically with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373 which was passed in 2001 following the 9/11 attacks on the United States.
     
    According to Prost, compliance with the Security Councils regulations are not only critical but mandatory for all member territories including small island developing states. She alluded to Attorney General Hon. Delano Barts statement in support of this at the ceremony to mark the opening  of the workshop.
      
    Representing the Federation at this workshop are Ag. Director of Financial Services Fidela Clarke, Senior Parliamentary Counsel, Beatriz Mutebi, Parliamentary Counsel Karen Hughes. Acting Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit Jacqueline Berry and Inspector Austin Williams of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force are also attending the workshop .
     
    Also facilitating the course are Veronic Wright Chief Programme Officer of the Criminal Law Section and Mr Debi Prasad Dash, consultant in the Counter-Terrorism Programme Criminal Law Section.
     
    The week-long workshop is being held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
