    Dr. Harris congratulates Barack Obama

Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris – Minister of Foreign Affairs
Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, Chairman of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, has extended congratulations to US Senator Barack Obama on his historic clinching of the Democratic Presidential nomination.

In a congratulatory letter to the Senator, Dr. Harris said, “I congratulate you on this historic and signature moment.

Your meteoric rise to the leadership of the US Democratic Party as its presumptive Presidential nominee has excited people everywhere. The magnitude and historic nature of the moment has been magnified for persons of the African Diaspora who instinctively came to believe in your vision and now more than ever have the audacity to hope for a better

    world.”

Dr. Harris continued, “Your personal and political successes to date speak well of the United States of America and its potential to lead the world in race relations.

Your successes remind us why liberty and opportunity beckon so many to America.  And, at the same time, we know that the journey has not yet been completed and Martin Luther King’s dream is not yet fully realised.

“America is no ordinary country. It is a world power. Its policies and actions affect people everywhere directly or indirectly.

History and Geography have brought us in the Caribbean and the USA together.  Our Caribbean people have contributed to the growth and development of America and we are certain that enlightened foreign policy by Presidents of the USA can propel the sustainable development of the Caribbean. ~~Adz:Left~~

“As you now move on to your next challenge of winning the Presidency in November, we in the Caribbean are awaiting to hear proposals regarding your vision of the wider responsibilities of America on issues of food security, poverty eradication, climate change and environmental security, and indeed your view on the Caribbean on its relations with the USA. For our part, we want an amicable relationship with America anchored on respect, partnership and a shared vision for the peace, prosperity and development of the Caribbean and USA.”
