Miguel ‘Bashment’ Robinson laid to rest

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MIGUEL ROBINSON a.k.a. Bashment was laid to rest at the Springfield Cemetery on Tuesday, March 6, following his funeral service at the Zion Moravian Church.

His death, the third murder for the year in St. Kitts, saw the 29-year-old die of multiple bullets, including one to the head on the night of Feb. 17, at Haynes Smith Village.

At his funeral service, the father of two daughters, Solange and Latifah Robinson, was described as a hardworking and family oriented person.

He was also described as one who enjoyed ‘liming’ with friends and partying.

Robinson, who resided at Lime Kiln at the time of his death, was also remembered as having lived at Bird Rock with his grandmother.

Perhaps there he honed his basketball skills, as far back in the 1990’s before there was a court at Bird Rock, where many of the neighborhood children would play basketball in the street, always having to be mindful of passing traffic.  The ‘court’ had one pole and one ring.

The nearby beach was also a favorite haunt for Robinson and his friends, especially during the summer, before all the changes that have since taken place at Bird Rock Beach.

The St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association extended their sympathies and expressed regret that they had “lost another good basketballer, a former junior national player, a 2011 business league champion who had played with Rams Hitters, Cayon and Ghut Bucks in the past”.

He also played with the Village Tickers in 2011.

At his service, Samantha Canwood wailed out Michael Jackson’s ballad, ‘Gone Too Soon’ as that was the reflective mood of those who attended.

The mother of his youngest daughter said in church that she was not prepared to give a speech, but felt she needed to say something.

She said that she and Robinson had been through a lot and said “thank you” several times for their beautiful daughter.

“I am going to take very good care of her,” she said.

His eulogy was read by his sister Andrea Browne who recapped fond memories of him.

The officiating minister was Reverend Hilton Joseph who during his message said that he knows family and friends are grieving now ‘but joy cometh in the morning’.

He added that he knew people were angry in terms of the way he died as we are losing our young men, but, “Release the grief to God, release the struggle to God, release the revenge to God…”

One of the male attendees at the funeral wore a bright pink shirt and when asked about the colour choice, said that Robinson was the type of person who loved to party and have a good time, so it was truly in honour of him.

Along with his two daughters he leaves to mourn his parents, Valerie Browne and Geron Robinson, three sisters and two brothers. May his soul rest in peace.
