Services Sector Gets Promotion in Greece

    McClean Hobson, Director Maritime Affairs

On Friday, June 6th, three representatives of the St. Kitts & Nevis shipping industry finished their participation in the 21st Posidonia Maritime Exhibition held in Posidonia, Greece, and have stated that the Federation stands to benefit financially from their presence at the show.

McClean Hobson, Director of Maritime Affairs, Nigel Smith, Registrar of Ships, and Jasvinder Virdi, Ship Registration Executive, used their time at exhibition to promote St. Kitts & Nevis’ tourism, ship registry and financial services sector.

With the largest percentage of ship owners in the world being based in Greece, Hobson said that the Maritime Exhibition was the perfect opportunity for the Federation to expand its business ties with the world.

“It’s always good when you can talk with them face-to-face,” the Maritime Affairs Director said.

Although the exhibition was mostly about maritime products and services, the contingent used the opportunity to promote tourism and the financial services sectors as much as possible. “Frankly, the feedback has been tremendous,” remarked Virdi.                 ~~Adz:Right~~

Hobson, Smith and Virdi reported countless persons at the St. Kitts & Nevis booth who indicated that they had visited the twin-island Federation, planned to visit it or wanted to know more about the islands.

According to Nigel Smith “the exhibition was more than pleasing. I am totally happy with our showing. It’s just a matter now of waiting to see how all of this translates into tangibles”.

The Posidonia Maritime Exbition is a bi-annual event and gives maritime stake holders around the world the opportunity to exhibit there goods and services. This year the exhibition hosted 8 Shipping Ministers, 21 national pavilions, 81 countries, and over 1, 700 exhibitors.
