By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A young man is in a critical but stable condition at the JNF Hospital after he was shot multiple times to the body early this morning (Mar. 11) in Prickly Pear Alley, Basseterre.

Hospitalised is 20-year-old Shervin David who is said to be a resident of Prickly Pear Alley.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes learnt that a group of young men, including David, were gaming on the street when a gunman or gunmen fired approximately 12 bullets, some of which struck David to the body.

According to reports, the gunman or gunmen fled the scene in a getaway car.
Members of the Delta Squad were present as well as technicians from the Crime Scene Department who had collected a number of spent shells and other items of evidential value, including a number plate.

The number plate, which is alleged to have fallen off the getaway car, was not confirmed or denied by the police who at the time of investigation were tight-lipped in the providence of information to this media house.

Also present at the crime scene was the Commissioner of Police and a relatively large crowd of residents from the area, some of whom voiced a strong dislike for the police’s modus operandi.

They alleged that when the police arrived at the scene, a young man was rendering assistance to the shooting victim and a female officer, “instead of trying to gain information on who shot the boy, banged the young man and chased him from the scene”.

More on this incident as information is made available.

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF'S NOTE: A release this morning from the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Stephen Hector, noted that preliminary investigations revealed that David was among friends at Prickly Pear Alley when a vehicle stopped at the junction of that Alley and Central Street and "two persons alighted from the vehicle and began to discharge their firearms. Shirvin David sustained gunshot wounds to his legs and on arrival at the JNF Hospital underwent emergency surgery".

The PRO also noted that the scene was processed by crime scene technicians and that Inspector Smithen, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, is appealing to the general public for their support at this time.

"The Public is invited to call 4652241 ext 220 or 662-2145 to convey any information which you may have," Hector added.
