BRADES, Montserrat, March 13th, 2012  –  The Honourable Premier of Montserrat, Reuben T. Meade said there is “no doubt about the future of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)”. His remarks followed his return from the 23rd Inter-Sessional Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government in Suriname last week.

Premier Meade said the meetings were very positive and that the leaders were in agreement about the measures recommended to reform the CARCICOM Secretariat based in Guyana.

During the two days of meeting, the CARICOM heads discussed the Landell Mills review of the Secretariat and the strategic direction of the 15-member Community. The report titled, “Turning around CARICOM: Proposals to restructure the Secretariat,” is the result of a review commissioned by Heads of Government at their Thirty-First Regular Meeting held in Jamaica, July 2010.

Caribbean Heads of Government have agreed that Secretary-General of CARICOM, His Excellency Mr. Irwin LaRocque would begin the process of restructuring the Secretariat through the recruitment of a change facilitator to support him in that exercise and the strengthening of the corporate functions as the first task.

The report, which is to be made public was carried out by independent Consultants and supervised by a Project Management Team comprising representatives of Member States.

Premier Meade said the Heads of Government were of the firm view that the integration movement has continued to make great strides and will continue to do so.
