    ST. GEORGE, Grenada, March 13th, 2012  --   The Government of Grenada has declared two days of mourning in honor of former Prime Minister George Ignatius Brizan, who will be laid to rest at the St. George’s Top Cemetery, following a State funeral, on Friday, March 16th, 2012.

     

    Flags on all government buildings will be flown at half mast on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th March, 2012.

     

    The body of Mr. Brizan will lie-in-state at the Parliament, now housed at the Grenada Trade Center, from 10.00AM to 5.30PM on Thursday. Governor General, Sir Carlyle Glean, Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas, government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and family members of Mr. Brizan, will pay their respects to the former Prime Minister from 10.00AM to 11.30AM.

     

    Members of the public will be allowed to view the body of the late Prime Minister from 11.30AM on Thursday. A guest book will be provided for signing and an exhibition will feature the work of the former Prime Minister.

     

    On Friday morning, the Cortege will leave the Parliament building (Grenada Trade Center) at 8.15AM to arrive at the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Roman Catholic Church at Roxborough, St. Paul at 9.00AM for the State funeral. There will be a period of public viewing from 9.05AM to 10.00AM, while government officials, dignitaries and  family members will undertake final viewing from 10.00AM to 10.30AM. Seating at the church will be reserved.

     

    However, overflow areas with tents and video screens will be available for members of the public attending the State Funeral.

     

    This will be followed by a one and a half hour period of tributes from various orgainsations with which Mr. Brizan interacted and contributed.

     

    The Funeral Service for Mr. Brizan will begin at 12.30. 

     

    Following the service, the Cortege will depart the church at 3.00PM for the St. George’s Top Cemetery, the final resting place for the former Prime Minister. 
    A procession, led by a detachment of the Special Services Unit (SSU) of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) will lead the Cortege from the junction of Lucas Street and Old Fort Road to the cemetery.

     

    A 19-gun salute will accompany the interment of the former Prime Minister. 

     

    Special traffic arrangements have been announced by the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) for St. Paul’s and Lucas Street to facilitate the State funeral.
