United States carriers account for 64 percent of all arrivals
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 7th, 2012 (CUOPM) – Four of the six airlines that operate scheduled service into St. Kitts’ Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport brought more passengers in 2011 than the previous year.
According to figures obtained from the Statistics Department of The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), United States-based carriers accounted for over 60 percent of all passengers arriving at the Robert L. Bradshaw Airport.
American Airlines which operates flights from Miami and New York, daily and twice weekly respectively, brought a total of 56,058 passengers in 2011 compared to 48,491 passengers in 2010, an increase of 7,576, up 15.60 percent.
British Airways which flies from London-Gatwick on Tuesdays and Saturdays, brought in 8,329 passengers in 2011, compared to 7,822, an increase of 6.48 percent or 507 more passengers.
Delta Airlines, flying out of Atlanta on Saturdays, brought in 4,516 passengers in 2011 compared to 4,362 in 2010, an increase of 154 or 3.53 percent.
US Airways, which flies out of Charlotte, North Carolina, also chalked up an increase bringing 5,080 passengers to St. Kitts in 2011 compared to 4,616 in 2010, an increase of 464, up 10.5 percent.
American Eagle and LIAT registered decreases. LIAT brought in 38,652 passengers in 2011 compared to 44,117 in 2010, a drop of 5,465, down 12.39 percent. American Eagle registered a slight 1.10 percent decrease bringing in 12,762 passengers in 2010 compared to 12,621 in 2111, down 141.
Miami Air which operates charters to St. Kitts registered a 45.76 percent drop in passengers in 2011, bringing in 1,374 passengers compared to 2,353 passengers in 2010.
Passengers arriving on corporation or private jets increased significantly in 2011, up 173.64 percent, from 679 in 2010 to 1,858 in 2011.
American Airlines, American Eagle, US Airways, Delta Airlines and Miami Air accounted for 64 percent or 79,699 of the 130,690 passengers that arrived at the Robert Bradshaw International Airport in 2011.
LIAT accounted for 29 percent and British Airways 6 percent of passenger arrivals in 2011.
