Former Reporter of ZIZ News Broadcasting Corporation and the St. Kitts-Nevis Observer Newspaper, Lisa Eddy emerged the proud winner of the Dr. Valerie Wynn, Miss Black Cameron University Queen Pageant last Saturday February 5th, 2005.

Eddy, who hails from the town of Sandy Point, is a 4.0 GPA student and has been on the Presidents List every semester except the second one since attending the Cameron University in Oklahoma, said that the past few months have been very rewarding for her and that winning the pageant was a dream come true.

That moment was one of my dreams come true!  After being accepted by Cameron University, one of my dreams was to be crowned Miss Black Cameron which is the reason I entered this pageant again this year because I was determined to get that crown, an ambitious Eddy said.

She first entered the pageant last year and placed first runner up.

The Miss Black Cameron University is one of the activities held during the month of February in celebration of Black History month. The pageant is hosted each year by the Ebony Society at the University.

Her winnings included a cash prize and a three year tuition scholarship.

She won all four segments on the night of the show.  They were Ambassadorial Speech, in which Eddy depicted the famous black actor, Sidney Poiter. For the talent segment she did a dramatic interpretation entitled, Faces of a woman which was also a dance depiction of various roles performed by women. Eddy said the audience was receptive to her performance.

She also modeled a beautiful fuchsia gown for the evening segment and best on-stage interview were all the categories she won.

For the Evening Wear segment Eddy was escorted by Zane Bassue, fellow Kittitian who resides in Oklahoma.

First runner-up Chyvonne Taylor from Washington DC won a personal interview segment that was conducted in a round robin style on the morning of the pageant, according to Eddy.

Second runner-up went to Ashly Austin of Mississippi while Dane Wrightlester of Oklahoma placed third runner-up.

Eddy revealed that being the newly crowned queen, there are several activities she will have to participate in such as the Miss Black Oklahoma Pageant in June 18-25, later this year.

Her first appearance as queen would be on Saturday February 12, where she will be on parade for the community festival in Lawton, and is expected to make numerous appearances at various community events in the Lawton-Fort Sill Community in Oklahoma as well as appearances at schools.

She added: I am very thankful for the success I have received thus far and my only wish was that my mother and my sisters were there with me on the night I won the pageant to celebrate in my success."

Eddy mentioned that she misses her family greatly especially her mother Rosan Eddy of Sandy Point and her two younger sisters, On the night of the pageant I became so emotional not because I won but also because I did not have my family there with me.

However, Eddy says her future looks very bright, and that she has grown tremendously in attitude and mind since attending Cameron University.

I have become a more determined and focused individual and I believe these attributes are what contributed to my recent successes, she said. Having won the Miss Black Cameron Pageant I am now faced with several changes in my life, instead of pursuing a double major in Communications and Psychology I will now be completing my Bachelors Degree in Communications and pursuing my Masters Degree as well.

Eddy recently made the Presidents list for fall 2004 among two other Kittitians and also recently received the Helen Sioussat/Fay Wells Scholarship for the year 2005/2006 academic year. The scholarship represents one of only 15 such awards given nationwide by the Broadcast Education Association (BEA).

Eddys honor was also the first time a Cameron University student has been
awarded a BEA scholarship since the inception of Camerons Radio/
    Television Degree concentration in 1985.

I am happy to say my future looks bright and I intend to continue to work hard to make it even more rewarding, she said.

Eddy is a member of the Ebony Society, Students of the Caribbean Alliance, The Broadcast Club, the International Students Club and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
