Two suffer minor injuries in Bypass Road traffic accident

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WEATHER conditions may have contributed to a traffic accident that took place this morning (Mar. 16) resulting on two persons seeking medical attention at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

The incident – according to SGT Calvin Amory of the Traffic Department – occurred along the F.T. Williams Highway (West Basseterre Bypass Road) at approximately 8:30 a.m. involving motor jeep P2471.

He explained that the vehicle – driven by Janol Brookes of Newton Ground – was travelling eastwards along the western portion of the road and, while in the vicinity of the back of the Defence Force Camp, it skidded and caused the driver to lose control.

Consequently, the vehicle overturned on the mountain side of the road, landing on its left side with its front facing west. The accident occurred a short while after rain had fallen.

The Traffic Department was summoned to the scene and investigations into the incident commenced.

Brookes and the other occupant of the vehicle – Janet Brookes, his mother – were taken to the hospital for treatment and, according to Amory, they suffered minor cuts bruises for which they were treated and subsequently discharged.

The vehicle, however, sustained extensive damage and the authorities are continuing their inquiries.

SGT Amory advised that motorists should pay close attention to road and weather condition and adjust their driving to suit.

“Whenever the road is wet, it is more dangerous to drive at the posted speed limit. We therefore are advising and appealing to motorists to exercise even greater caution when road and weather conditions are adverse.”
