BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A motorcyclist, Steve ‘Bugmouth’ Powell, of Upper Market Street was rushed to the Joseph N. France General Hospital today (Mar. 16) after he collided with another vehicle while riding his P1804 motorcycle at about 4:30 p.m.

According to Sergeant Calvin Amory of the Police Traffic Department, they received a report of an accident around 4:45 p.m. in the Ocean Gardens area, near Mattingly Heights.

Amory said that Powell was on his way from Basseterre to Sandy Point when he collided with motorcar P6070 that was exiting a stop from Ocean Gardens and travelling to Basseterre.

The motorcar was driven by Winifred Ihunwo, a student of Windsor University School of Medicine who resides Bladen Housing.

The motorcycle was said to be “extensively damaged” and Powell was transported to the hospital by a unit of the Emergency Medical Services.

The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time.

Ihunwo escaped the accident unhurt and the right rear door of her car had a minor damage.

Just this morning at 8:30 an accident occurred on the F.T. Williams Highway involving motor jeep P2471. It was reportedly travelling eastwards along the western portion of the road and, while in the vicinity of the back of the Defence Force Camp, skidded and caused the driver to lose control.

It was also reported that the vehicle overturned on the mountain side of the road, landing on its left side with its front facing west.

The occupants of the car, Janol Brookes and his mother Janet Brookes, were taken to the hospital for treatment and, according to Amory, they suffered minor cuts bruises for which they were treated and subsequently discharged.
