NIA officials pleased with progress at new water wells

Premier Parry, who registered his satisfaction with the progress and commended those involved in the project.

“I congratulate the minister and the ministry and Bedrock Exploration and Development Technologies (BEAD) for working so seriously and so hard.  They have identified a well that is producing 500, 000 gallons of water per day and that water will be in the Maddens reservoir to be distributed around the island of Nevis.”

“I am proud of the government and the people I have elected, even though I am part of it and head of it.  We have demonstrated once again that we are keeping our promises and that our people come first,” Mr. Parry said.

The wells at Maddens in St. James’ Parish and Business Ghaut in St. George’s Parish were two of the more successful wells that have been discovered on the island since BEAD commenced deep drilling for additional water on the island.

Minister Powell too had high praise for the operations manager and his staff.

“In terms of what we are doing, yes, I am delighted with what has happened so far and to find a new source of water which will provide us approximately half a million gallons of water per day. [It] is tremendous especially when you look at the history of water in Nevis and look to see what neglect there was with respect to this particular [Water] Department,” he said.

The site at Maddens had already seen the construction of a pump house which would house a generator and control rooms. 

Mr. Morris gave some technical details and indicated that the depth of the well was approximately 700 feet.

Meantime, Morris assured the public that the well at Business Ghaut, St. Georges’ once completed, would service the entire Gingerland to Charlestown area.  He added that water lines and pipes would be connected through the various villages in Gingerland and also to Charlestown. ~~Adz:Left~~
