ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, March 16th, 2012  – Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE and his Government join with the family, friends and members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in remembering the life of Sergeant Joseph Toulon who will be laid to rest tomorrow.

Sergeant Toulon, a long serving police officer, succumbed to injuries sustained from a vehicle accident in Spooner’s Estate on March 2.

In speaking with the Department of Information and Public Relations, Premier said the news of Sergeant Toulon’s death came as a shock and has now left a void in those who knew him.

In remembering Sergeant Toulon, Premier Smith said, “He had a very serious devotion to law enforcement and to the security of these Virgin Islands. He believed firmly that police-community relations were important to deterring crime.”

According to Honourable Smith, when he served as Chief Minister, Sergeant Toulon was his protection officer at different intervals. Premier said, “He was always frank, yet professional with his comments. He was committed to what he was doing. He was always diligent and steadfast in his commitment to my protection. Although he was seen as serious about his business, he had a very gentle heart.”

Honourable Smith extends condolences to his family on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands.

On Saturday, a parade of officers will begin from Road Town Police Station to the Road Town Methodist Church at 8:00 a.m. The viewing and funeral service begins at 9:00a.m. and 10:30a.m., respectively, followed by the interment with full honours at the Sea Cows Bay Public Cemetery.
