Press Release

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, March 16th, 2012 – The Department of Human Resources in conjunction with the BVI Health Services Authority and BUPA, Government’s Health Care Provider, will be hosting a Health Insurance Fair on Friday, March 23 from 9:00am to 6:00pm at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park.

The presenters will be a visiting doctor and nutritionist from Bupa Health Insurance who will be discussing topics relative to diabetes, hypertension, obesity and heart health, which are key medical issues within our community.

Acting Director of Human Resources Mrs. Michelle Donovan Stevens explaining how public officers will benefit from the fair said, “The fair is timely as the topics to be discussed are some of the conditions officers are claiming for benefits. It is important that officers are well informed of the preventative measures to ensure optimum health.”

“I encourage all public officers, retirees and their dependents to attend the fair and learn about these various medical conditions and the lifestyle changes that can improve their health,” the Acting Director added.

Blood pressure and glucose testing for all persons covered under the Government of the Virgin Islands Health Insurance plan will also be available at the fair; however, members are required to present their insurance card in order to be tested. Additionally, representatives from Bupa will also be on hand to respond to any policy questions relative to Government’s Health Insurance Plan.

The fair will be held in three sessions: 9:00am to 11:00am, 1:00pm to 3:00pm and 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Persons interested in attending the fair are asked to contact the Department of Human Resources at extension 2178 to register as seats are limited.

The Department of Human Resources remains committed to ensuring that public officers and retirees are kept abreast of information needed to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.
