Prime Minister Spencer Welcomes High level Security Meeting

    ST.JOHN'S Antigua, March 20th, 2012  --  Prime Minister, Dr Hon. Baldwin Spencer has welcomed the first high-level national security meeting for 2012 adding that it is the beginning of something that is going to be of great importance for the people of Antigua and Barbuda and the region.

     

    The meeting which featured the Minister of National Security Dr. Errol Cort took the form of a one day retreat at the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training institute on Monday March 19th.

     

    Dr. Cort engaged in discussions with high ranking members of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda as well as the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force on issues impacting the island’s security forces.

     

    Prime Minster Spencer expressed satisfaction that the security agenda is taking on the kind of prominence that it deserves and called for the development of a regional approach to address criminal activities in specific areas of concern.

     

    Some of the issues discussed at the meeting included the rise in crime in secondary schools, and ways to address this problem, along with violence against women and home invasions.
