CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – MINISTER OF CULTURE, the Hon. Hensley Daniel told the press and representatives of sponsors that the renovation of the Nevis Cultural Complex would match the level of contribution made by sponsors towards Culturama 2008.

Minister Daniel also assured the corporate sector that the monies raised towards the success of the festival would be properly managed. He said the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) recognised the role played by the annual event and had ensured that legislation was in place to establish the Nevis Cultural Foundation.

The Minister said the Foundation’s existence had led to the merger of the Culture Department and the Culturama Secretariat. “It is the first time Culturama is being organised under the auspices of the Foundation,” said the Minister. He declared that the Foundation oversees the research and documentation of cultural activities, promotion of the arts, marketing of the festival and the establishment of festivals.

Daniel said fans of Culturama have a variety of interests. He noted some of them are interested in profits accrued during the festival, some in security details and others focus on particular shows and events.   ~~Adz:Right~~

He called on the Police Force to ensure adequate security was put in place and pointed out that the NIA Cabinet was in full support of the event.

He also disclosed that arrangements were being finalised to invite an international artiste.

Daniel said certain challenges, such as people dropping out of shows, only makes Culturama juicy and “Culturama cannot be without a controversy”.

Head of Nevis Division, Superintendent Samuel Seabrookes told the press that the security details were in place. “We will be proactive. There will be zero tolerance on violence. Anybody found with weapons will be arrested and jailed. We want everybody to have an enjoyable Culturama,” he said.

Seabrookes said the Culturama Secretariat had had a series of meetings with the Police to ensure that security is guaranteed during the event.
