BASSETERRE St. Kitts, March 23rd, 2012 -- Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, Senior Minister and Minister of Agriculture has extended warmest congratulations to the Principal, teachers and students of the Washington Archibald High School (WAHS) on that school’s spectacular success in the Third Essay Competition put on by the Food and Agriculture Organization to mark World Food Day.
In August 2011, the Coordinator of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) World Food Day activities launched the Third Essay Competition under the theme titled Food Prices – from Crisis to Stability.
The cash prizes and library books have been determined for the two categories: (A) 11 to 14 years and (B) 15 to 17 years. The First Prize is US $500, the Second Prize is US $400 and the Third Prize is US $300 for both categories.
These winners will also receive a 2011 World Food Day bronze medal. Those placing fourth, fifth and sixth have also won a bronze medal and a set of books for their school libraries.
The Washington Archibald High School won three prizes: 2 in category A (11-14 years) and 1 in category B (15-17 years).
Category A (11-14 years)
First Prize: Renell Agard, Washington Archibald High School
Fifth Prize: Zoe Cheyenne Quinlan, Washington Archibald High School
Category B (15-17 years)
Second Prize: Kayla Farrell, Washington Archibald High School
The handing over of the prizes and medals to the winners above should take place at a future date. Dr Harris expressed gratitude to the FAO Representatives, the school’s Principal and teachers and the students for having assisted and participated in this initiative.
