    Ross local employees further education with degrees from DeVry University

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - NINE DeVry University graduates and members of the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) family were honored for their academic achievements at a ceremony held at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel and Casino on Saturday, June 14.

     

    The graduates pursued their education through a special programme the RUSVM offers, which enables all employees and their families the opportunity to attended DeVry University’s (RUSVM’s parent company) classes free of charge.

     

    There are currently 52 employees and families enrolled in the programme, and Dr. David DeYoung, Dean of RUSVM, stated that since the programme began in 2006 those who enrolled have received around EC $5m in free education.
    “Education is paramount in the development of the individual and society. You are the pioneers,” DeYoung said as he addressed the students at the ceremony.

     

    The Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Sam Condor, was also on hand for the occasion and declared that the students’ degrees were

    merely one stop on a roadway of great things to come.

     

    “This is an occasion to celebrate some of our nation’s finest sons and daughters. It is a celebration that honors obstacles overcome...Education can turn anything around,” said Condor.

     

    He also told the students that they are “model employees and model citizens,” and that others should look to them as examples of what could be achieved when a person chooses to persevere. The Minister thanked RUSVM for their contribution to nation building and their continued, multi-faceted support of St. Kitts and Nevis.

     

    Charles Pemberton, who was honored for his Masters of Project Management, spoke on behalf of the student body that was gathered and told his fellow graduates to “see yourself as change agents as you move on and return to the workforce”.

     

    ~~Adz:Left~~ Also honored at the ceremony for receiving Masters Degrees were: P. Cyndie Demming - Human Resource Management; Julienne Rawlins - Accounting and Financial Management; Floyd Revan - Human Resource Management; Alison Stewart - Business Administration; and Collin Williams - Information Systems.

     

    Those honored for receiving Bachelors Degrees were: Cheryl Cumberbatch - Bachelors of Science in Information Technology; P. Cyndie Demming - Bachelors of Science Technical Management; Avonelle Fahie - Bachelor of Science in Technical Management; and Iona Halliday-Simmonds - Bachelors of Business Administration.
