ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, March 26th, 2012   –  In a surprise visit, best-selling author and motivational guest speaker Ms. Lisa Nichols and International Speaker Ms. Allyson Byrd inspired fourth and fifth form students at the Elmore Stoutt High School with a group talk session, today March 26 telling them, “You are Unstoppable”.

Using the title of her bestselling book, “No Matter What,” Ms. Nichols empowered and inspired students to achieve greatness in their lives, no matter what circumstances, situations or challenges they are going through.

“No one can define your destiny. No one can define who you will be in the world but you. That is good news. That is major news. If you are going to do it, it is because you say you are going do it and if you do not, you cannot blame anyone but yourself.”

She spoke about her struggles growing up in school saying, “School went fast and they did not have a whole lot of time to repeat concepts and I was one of those students who did not get it the first time, so I struggled the whole time in high school. By the time I was about to graduate I had no idea what I was going to do in the world. Who was I going to be?”

She challenged students to look at themselves and determine, “Who Can I Be? If I was outrageous, if I was bold - Who could I have the audacity to become?”

Ms. Allyson Byrd shared how at age 16, she was a high school dropout and faced an identity crisis. She felt overwhelmed by life, living with a frustrated single mother and without a father.

She said, she didn’t see any positive choices around and was about to end her life when her cousin shared a biblical scripture with her from Psalms 139 which states that, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” Ms. Byrd said that caused her to change her “mental zip code” not just her “physical zip code”, which in turn, turned her life around.

Coordinated by Mr. Meade Malone and the Department of Education, Ms. Nichols and Ms. Byrd’s visit to the Territory is a run-over from the Six Pillars of Success, Power your Breakthrough and Thrive workshop held yesterday in St. Thomas. Ms. Nichols is the author of six best-selling books and is currently on a 14-day, four country 13 event tour. She remains in the Territory until tomorrow.

Principal Ms. Melissa Amey and Pastoral Principal Mrs. Donna Cline-Thomas were present in addition to some faculty from the Elmore Stoutt High School.

The Ministry of Education and Culture and the Department of Education constantly engage in development opportunities to propel students towards academic success and self-development.
