BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SHAWN ‘Handsome’ Phillip was removed from the Basseterre High Court earlier today and taken to Her Majesty’s Prison where he is to begin serving an eight-year sentence for shooting at with intent.

A 12-member jury returned to court at 9 o’clock this morning when presiding judge, Justice Alfred Redhead began presenting his summation of the evidence given in the case.

All witnesses in the case were called yesterday, including the virtual complainant Chelston Richardson, who, at the time of the incident, was a member of the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force.

Richardson testified that while he was on his way home sometime after 10 o’clock on the night of March 27, 2008, he was shot at by Phillip. The incident took place in Newtown in the vicinity of Manchester Avenue. ~~Adz:Right~~

Some four witnesses were called to give evidence in the case and it took the jury less than 15 minutes to convict Phillip of the offence for which he was charged.

Shawn ‘Handsome’ Phillip was sentenced by Justice Redhead to serve eight years imprisonment with hard labour.
