BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PROMPT response by the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services yesterday afternoon (Mar. 29) saved an entire dwelling space from being destroyed by fire.

The unfortunate incident took place at approximately 6:30 p.m. in Douglas Estate at the residence of Julian ‘Balang’ Morton.

According to information received by this publication from the Basseterre Fire Department, a call was placed there at approximately 6:35 p.m. and a unit was dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the unit found that a one-storey concrete dwelling structure was on fire and acted promptly to snuff out the flames.

This publication understands that the blaze originated in and was confined to a bedroom located on the southern side of the building.

Mr. Morton is said to have not been at home when the incident occurred, but this publication understands that he was made aware after receiving a phone call from his wife, Lyn.

Further information reaching SKNVibes suggests that she was transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where she was treated for shock but suffered no injuries as a result of the fire.

The Basseterre Fire Department has indicated that most – if not all – of the contents of the room were destroyed and the walls were badly scorched.

Members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were also summoned to the scene to conduct investigations into the cause of the fire, which is yet to be established.
