Dupont’s silent protest continues

Carlton Dupont with Bible in hand

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOR the second time in as many Fridays, social activist and member of Operation Rescue Carlton Dupont orchestrated a silent protest on Church Street, directly opposite Government Headquarters.

Dupont is adamant in his stance of removing Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr.
Denzil. L. Douglas from office as the political leader of the twin-island Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis.

With Bible in hand, Dupont explained to this media house that this exercise is part of his fight to evict a “failed” Dr. Douglas from the helm.

“The purpose is that I am fighting to remove the Prime Minister out of office because he is a complete failure. I must keep telling the media I am not a Labour, I am not a PAM, but the way things are going in this country, it could be much better for the people to live and Dr. Douglas continues to fail us badly.”

Claiming that he could list numerous ways in which the Prime Minister has failed on the job, Dupont expressed that by virtue of Dr. Douglas’ actions, he is an unfit leader.

“Check the passport deals with our money. Every time reporters ask him about that (they are told) that they are asking stupid questions...he doesn’t have answers. That can’t be a Prime Minister! That is one. What about the gulf course and the condominiums he was supposed to use down at La Valle so long ago – according to people – with a $3M fence?

“Nothing can be worse that what he did to the Honourable Sam Condor the other day with a Permanent Secretary knowing more about foreign office than him. I could stay here and give you 100 things. A man like that cannot be fit to run the country. A Prime Minister must have a lot more class than that to be embarrassing his Deputy like the way Dr. Douglas has been doing.”

Making reference to Jeremiah 10:23, the social activist – who was joined by other members of Operation Rescue – expressed that Dr. Douglas “needs to have some godliness in his life to have some semblance of respect for even himself, then he could think about running the country. He can’t even direct his own steps. How could he direct the country? He is not fit to be the Prime Minister.”

The businessman said he is resolute to stand on Church Street every Friday – barring holidays – in silent prayer and protest until Dr. Douglas is removed from office.

“And I am going to keep coming here and I am going to use my energy and everything I have in life to remove Dr. Douglas. Not with bottles, not with stones, but to help purify our people’s minds for them to understand that it doesn’t matter who replaces him, they will be much better and the country will prosper.

“I want the other citizens to become brave and understand that Douglas is not the provider of bread. Douglas is not the provider of bread and he continues to subjugate our people. He wants them underneath him. Douglas even gets angry if people become more educated. When you have people and they are kept like how Douglas has people, they have to look to him…We want a leader who would respect the people who put him there to do a job for five years.”

When will the Prime Minister be removed from office? According to Dupont, “It will happen before this year concludes...no bottles, no stones.”
