BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER approximately four hours of competition among five students of the Basseterre High School, Cariela Liburd comfortably edged out her opponents to capture that learning institution’s 2012 Queen title.
The competition was between Miss Technology and Society, Theocita Allen; Onida Tyrell, Miss Youth at Risk; Dwashema Liburd, Miss Student Community Relations; Miss Life Skills, Cariela Liburd and Ashlee Liburd, Miss School and National Pride.
Held at Carnival Village, the pageant showcased the contestants in five judged segments Promotional Speech, Creative Wear, Performing Talent, Evening Wear and Interview.
It was shortly after 1:00 a.m. when the judges had finished tallying their scores and the announcement made.
Tyrell pinned down the Promotional Speech segment with a total of 136.65 points, while the Evening Wear segment was won by Ashlee Liburd with 79 points.
Allen won the Performing Talent segment with 156 points. The Creative Wear and Interview segments were won by Cariela Liburd with 102 and 146 points respectively.
Winner of the Second Runner-up position was Tyrell with 551 points, and the First Runner-up position was captured by Allen with 577.5 points.
Queen Cariela amassed a total of 606 and under her belt is a year’s worth of bragging rights, while among her prizes is a 32-inch plasma flat screen television compliments Seymour Williams of Island Auto Supplies.
All contestants delivered sterling performances at the event and additional entertainment was provided by the Grand Masters Band, Kittitian Superstars winner Kayda Bass, the Dance Electric Moves Dance Academy and the Youth Musical Sound.
