Premier’s Press Secretary participates in U.S Sponsored Leadership Project

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS-Thursday, June 19, 2008) Press Secretary to the Premier of Nevis, Mrs. Deli Caines Bussue is in Washington D.C attending the United States (U.S) sponsored, ‘International Visitor Leadership Program’, from June 16-20, 2008.
A number of Press Secretaries from the Caribbean are in attendance at this workshop which is geared towards fostering mutual understanding between the United States and the Caribbean through educational, professional and cultural exchanges.
The objective of the program is to review and observe the history of public information in the United States. Areas to be covered include:
• The role of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
• Information sharing and transparency at the Federal, State, and Local levels.
• Professional interaction with colleagues to examine challenges, share experiences and observe concrete and practical functions of media personnel. ~~Adz:Right~~
• The relationship and cooperation government, the media and the general public.
Among the esteemed presenters are Dr. Steven Livingstone, Professor of Media and Public Affairs and Assistant Professor at the American University, Dr. Barbara Palmer.
As part of the program, the participants are visiting a number of key locations including the U.S Department of State, The Rapid Response Center, The Institute of International Education and the Foreign Press Center.
During the course of the Sub-Regional project, the Caribbean Press Secretaries will also visit the Pentagon, the Senate Press Gallery and the White House.
