    Police/Court Round Up

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO juveniles are among a list of individuals who were recently arrested for allegedly participating in criminal activities.

     

    The younger of the two juveniles, a 14-year-old from Phillips Village, was arrested on June 17, 2008 and charged with the offence of “being armed with an offensive weapon”.

     

    The older juvenile [17], of Sprott Street, Basseterre, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, robbery, battery and carrying abroad an offensive weapon.

     

    Chester Williams of Saddlers Village was arrested and charged for refusing to give his name and address, and resisting arrest.  According to the Police, the offence, was committed on June 14, 2008.

     

    Tabernacle resident Michael Finch was on June 14, 2008 arrested and charged with possession of cannabis; and in an unrelated incident, Andre France of Brown Pasture, Nevis was also arrested and charged with possession of cannabis.

     

    Ian Phillip, a resident of La Guerite Village, was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis and driving when not covered by insurance.

     

    “Driving without insurance” is the offence with which Byran Drew of Gulf View, Frigate Bay has been charged.

     

    COURT CONVICTIONS

     

    While others, who were convicted of offences brought against them, were ordered to pay fines, a juvenile was sentenced to serve jail time.

     

    According to a police press release, a 15-year-old, who resides at Carty Alley, Newtown, appeared before the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court and was convicted for carrying abroad an offensive weapon, which was committed on January 18, 2008. He was sentenced to serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    A $2 400 compensatory fine was imposed on a 17-year-old of Trafalgar Village, who was convicted of “house breaking and larceny”.  He was placed on a two-year probationary period to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

     

    A Police release states that on February 14, 2007, the 17-year-old year broke and entered the home of Glenroy Marshall at Bird Rock and stole a number of items, including a laptop, clothing and a radio.

     

    In other news, Cardin Avenue residents Kebbler Lewis and Jason Liddie were convicted of the offences of “obstruction”, “resisting arrest” and “battery”, which were committed on January 15, 2008.

     

    Lewis was convicted and cautioned on all counts and Liddie was fined $500 which is to be paid within two weeks or in default, 14 imprisonment.

     

    INVESTIGATION

     

    The authorities have indicated that they are making investigations into an incident which took place on Tuesday at about 1:00 in the morning at Ponds Extension.  They indicate that a young lady was sexually assaulted by “an unknown male who broke and entered her house”.
