Country Head Robert Judd captures the moment withthis guardian of the underprivileged, Earl Clarke
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- First Caribbean International Bank (FCIB) officials are reminding the populace that the deadline for nominations for the Unsung Heroes programme is drawing near.

SKNVibes.com spoke with Jasmine Parris FCIB Nevis Branch Manager who said although the deadline date was June 30th, FCIB did not want to close nominations “without those persons who are really making a difference having a chance to be recognised”.

“We are encouraging the public to look around in their individual communities and identify those persons who are making worthwhile efforts towards improving the community and take some time out to nominate those persons,” she appealed.

In 2003, FCIB launched the Unsung Heroes programme in St. Kitts and Nevis which joined 16 other territories in the regional programme. Under the guidelines of the programme, a local Unsung Hero is selected by a panel of judges from their respective country and then an overall Unsung Hero is chosen from amongst the country winners.

Local ‘Heroes’ receive US $6000, up from $5000 last year, and the person selected as the regional Unsung Hero is awarded US $7500. The funds, she explained can be used to further their work in the communities. ~~Adz:Right~~

When asked if the 2008 nominations for St. Kitts and Nevis were up from last year, Parris explained that so far the rate of nomination was “low” in comparison to 2007.

“A possible reason for this is that persons no longer want to write. However, it can be difficult to encourage people to put their thoughts on paper, whether or not they can put it properly in terms of grammar, should not deter people. We (FCIB) will try to read between the lines and decipher what they mean.”

Persons wishing to nominate someone can collect forms from any FCIB branch or can print them from the financial institution’s website www.firstcaribbeanbank.com.

Previous winners from the federation were Earle Clarke (2007), Ken Evelyn of Nevis (2006) and Zack Nisbett (2005). These gentlemen were selected as winners having demonstrated their ‘dedication beyond the ordinary towards the social improvement of the federation’.
