    Janel Hanley-Duncan-Arrested for Fraud

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JANEL HANLEY, also known as Janel Duncan, of La Guerite, Basseterre was arrested and charged for obtaining credit by fraud and uttering a forged document.

A Police press release issued yesterday stated that Hanley was “arrested and charged on Thursday, June 19, 2008 with the offences of obtaining credit by fraud and uttering a forged document. The offences were committed on June 9, 2008”.

SKNVibes was reliably informed that the former Cayon resident had committed the offences on five different occasions but was caught when her employer, David Payne of David Payne and Associates Company Limited in Lower Monkey Hill, St. Peters, realised that an unauthorised withdrawal was made from his bank account.

Payne told this media house that Hanley was employed with his Company on January 18, 2008 as a Driver/Sales Clerk and on numerous occasions was entrusted with cash and cheques to deposit in his account at the First Caribbean International Bank.

The employer however pointed out that Hanley was fired on May 23 after he discovered she was stealing from him through his account at the said bank. He said the discovery was made shortly after the second week in May. ~~Adz:Right~~

“One day, as I was going through my Internet Bank Account, I noticed a transaction which stated that $1 400 was paid out on submission of a cheque that I had no knowledge of. I did not write or sign that check, so I immediately checked the stubs of my cheque book and found the stub for that particular transaction was missing,” Payne said.

Payne said he called the bank and requested a copy of the cheque, which was sent via fax, and he noticed the amount of $1 400 was made out to Jonel Hanley with his name affixed as the signatory.

He also said further inquiry revealed that three previous forgeries of $800, $1 400 and $1 400 were made by Hanley as well as another for $800 after he made the discovery, totaling $5 800.

Payne noted that the matter was reported to the Police, which resulted in Hanley being arrested and charged on Thursday.

When contacted last evening, the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, said Hanley was in their custody, but could not confirm if bail was granted.
