Press Release

ST.JOHN'S Antigua,  April 4th,  2012   --  In the tranquil and picturesque setting of the Villas at Sunset Lane, the Ministry of Tourism’s ‘Staycation Expo” team launched its official website today.

The website, www.staycationsantiguabarbuda.com, is the latest initiative undertaken by the Ministry to propel the visibility of businesses registered to participate in Staycations 2012. The participants will be provided with an opportunity for a broader marketing reach via the official Staycations Antigua website.

The user-friendly website features in-depth information on the properties which are Google- mapped, links to their official website, Staycation T.V and ads. In the future, the website aims to provide an online booking engine to the properties that participate.

Ms. Vashti Ramsey Chairperson of the Staycation Expo committee says the Staycations website “provides an additional bonus for participating in the annual Staycations expo, because it adds to our PR machinery leading up to the event and it extends beyond the expo for a full year with real time updates and features.”

Minister of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications Science and Technology Hon. Dr. Edmond Mansoor spoke highly of the Ministry of Tourism’s initiative to launch such a website. He is of the opinion that the visibility that social media provides to businesses when incorporated with well established methods, drives considerable traffic to websites.

Dr. Mansoor believes that Antigua has many Medium to VIP level properties which are comparable to others in the region. He expressed his Ministry’s willingness, and that of the New Media Unit within the Ministry of Information, to cooperate with the Staycation Expo team with their online marketing efforts.

Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation & Culture the Hon. John Maginley says he is optimistic that people will participate in Staycations Expo 2012, despite the current economic downturn as it gives them the opportunity to stay at participating hotels at a significantly reduced rate.

Maginley says that through Staycations he wants Antiguans and Barbudans to get an opportunity to not only support their own but to see what the country has to offer as “you cannot sell what you don’t know.”

He encouraged the hotels that were contacted to register for Staycations Expo 2012 and extended an open invitation to more businesses to come on board.

This is the fourth year for the Ministry of Tourism’s Staycation Expo.
